Shalmaneser V

Šulmanu - ašared V., biblical Shalmaneser (also Schulmanu - aschared, Schalmanaschschar ) was 726-721 BC Assyrian king ( Neuassyrisches Empire). He was the son of Tiglath- pileser III.

Shalmaneser V annexed Cilicia, fought against Israel, and numerous revolts within. Whether he overthrown by his brother Sargon II or victims of the civil strife was, remains speculative and is not evident from the historical sources.

The biblical report concludes that had the last king of the northern kingdom of Israel, Hoshea, Shalmaneser V subdue ( 2 Kgs 17.3 EU). The conquest of the city of Samaria ( 2 Kings 17.6 EU) still falls well into the reign of Shalmaneser. His wife was Banitu.
