Shanghai Jiao Tong University

The Shanghai Jiaotong University ( Abbreviation:上海 交通 大学, traditional characters :上海 交通 大学, Pinyin: Shànghǎi Jiaotong Daxue; short form: Shang Hai Jiao Da上海 交大or SJTU ), founded in 1896 is a Chinese University in Shanghai.

The name Jiaotong respectively Jiao Tong is the transcription of the Chinese word交通( pinyin: Jiaotong; Wade- Giles: ChiaoTung ). This word means about traffic, transportation, or communication ( something that connects ) and in several cases, part of the Chinese University of names in which it usually remains untranslated.

The Shanghai Jiaotong University created the so-called Shanghai ranking, a rating of universities worldwide, which is considered the world next to the Times Higher Education Supplement as one of the most cited.
