Sharur District
Şərur is a rayon of Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The capital of the district is the city Şərur.
Geography
The district has an area of 852 km ² and is bordered on the northeast by Armenia. In rayon, which lies on the southern slopes of the Lesser Caucasus, there are several mineral springs, gypsum and limestone deposits.
Population
The rayon had 2009 102.100 inhabitants, these are spread over 65 villages.
Economy
The region's economy is dominated by agriculture. It is grown mainly wine, grain, tobacco and vegetables.
Culture
In the district there are several ancient cities and fortifications. In the cave of Gazma will find evidence of Stone Age settlement. In the earlier major settlement Yengijar there are still old mosques, partially abandoned bathrooms and a small bazaar.
