Shavkat Mirziyoyev

Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev (Russian Шавкат Мираманович Мирзиёев or Мирзияев / Shavkat Miramanowitsch Mirsijojew or Mirsijajew; * July 24, 1957 at Zomin, Golodnostepskaja Oblast, today Jizzax Province, Uzbek SSR, Soviet Union) is since 12 December 2003 and Prime Minister of Uzbekistan. He was appointed by President Islom Karimov 's successor Otkir Sultonov.

Mirziyoyev studied in Tashkent at the Institute of Mechanization and irrigation technology in agriculture. He graduated in mechanical engineering and Candidate of Technical Sciences. From 1974 until the collapse of the Soviet Union, he worked in agriculture, especially in the area of irrigation technology. In the political field he was active at his university as a Komsomol secretary. Later, he also held positions in the organization of the Communist Party and worked as a university teacher.

In independent Uzbekistan, he was head of the administration of the province Jizzax and from 2001 to 2003, the province of Samarkand. From 1999 to 2004 Member of the Oliy Majlis was Mirziyoyev, the Uzbek Parliament. In 2003 he was nominated by President Karimov's head of government. In January 2005 he was again confirmed in his office by the Parliament. Since no other political office is important in addition to the president, Mirziyoyev itself is largely unknown in Uzbekistan.
