Shavrov Sh-2

The Shafrov Sch -2 (Russian Шавров Ш -2, meaning dwa - harm ) was a Soviet multi-purpose amphibious aircraft of the 1930s and the successful development of the designer Vadim Shafrov.

Development

Shafrov based its design on the lightweight amphibious flying boat Sch -1 of 1929, which he designed in collaboration with W. Korwin as an employee Dmitry Grigorovich at the plant No. 3 " Krasny Lotschik " from 1925, enlarged and improved the new draft However. As a typical design feature of a Shafrov - flying boat of the type obtained the characteristic lower stub wing with support floats and landing gear. The engine was water spray mounted on the upper wing, which was in turn connected by struts to the hull. The later production series had a closed cockpit.

On November 11, 1930, the first prototype took off for its maiden flight, graduating in the summer of 1931 from the testing. Then the series production began at the plant # 31 in Taganrog, where until 1934, 270 aircraft were built. Of which took over the WWS alone 50 and used them to flying schools. About 20 went to the Polar Air Fleet (Russian Полярная Авиация ). Later in the 1930s was created in Leningrad repair another series of about 50 Sch -2. Took place a few years after the war 1951/52, in Irkutsk another reissue of the model.

The Sch -2 proved to be very robust and served in both the civilian and military sectors as transports, education and liaison aircraft, for the supply of Arctic base camps and the border patrol flying boat and the fishing supervision. Some Sch -2 served as a board aircraft on icebreakers. 14-16 aircraft are outfitted for patient transport with two stretchers and called them Sch -2S.

The exact number of aircraft manufactured today is no longer detectable; total to have been produced between 300 to 700 copies.
