Shearman & Sterling is an international law firm with 18 offices worldwide, specializing mainly in commercial law, in particular corporate finance, capital markets and mergers and acquisitions.

History

The firm was founded in 1873 by Thomas Shearman and John William Sterling ( 1844-1918 ). Shearman had earned the reputation of a successful trial lawyer and Sterling had tied extensive relationships between clients and business representatives. Over the years the firm expanded to Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America.

In Germany, the first office was established in Dusseldorf in 1991. There were other offices in Frankfurt, Munich and Mannheim ( merger with Schilling Zutt Anschütz ). On 25 April 2008 announced Shearman & Sterling, that the created by the merger with Schilling Zutt Anschütz location in Mannheim middle of the year will split off in 2008 and is considered to be attorney - stock company under the name SZA Schilling, Zutt & Anschütz, active in the future. The offices in Dusseldorf and Munich were closed in 2013.

The firm was 2003-2012 sponsor of the international finals of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in the U.S..
