Sheet bend

The Schotstek is a knot for joining two ropes.

Name and history

The name has something to do with the way in which earlier the sheet with the sail was connected to a similar node. Today, for the bowline is used.

Easy Schotstek

The simple Schotstek is suitable for joining two ropes, both equally strong ropes and ropes of different thickness or different stiffness.

The Schotstek roughly halved the load of the rope. The simple Schotstek can be put on panties and is then solved even under heavy load. At low to no load is at this node with or without panties is a risk that it releases. It should therefore only be used for connections to permanent train.

Right and left-handed Schotstek

In the thick end of a bay is placed. With the thin end of the street in the bay, around it (direction of rotation away from the loose end of the bay ) and puts it through between the thin end and the bay. If everything is correct, both ends are on the same page. We distinguish between Schotstek from less reliable left-handed Schotstek ( Ashley-Nr. 1432 ). In the simple Schotstek show the loose ends on the same side, while left-handed, however, in different directions. Links of nodes is always, if you would start it with an overhand knot.

Wrong Schotstek

When the Schotstek the thicker rope swapped with the thin, so if you are in the thin end puts a bay and moves into the bay with the thick end etc - Then give a false Schotstek who is not holding.

Use

The Schotstek is used for socializing networks such as fishing nets and hammocks.

The angler uses the Schotstek as Jamknoten to connect a loop on the fly line to the leader.

Alternatives

  • The Double Schotstek is at very different thicknesses or different beschaffenen ropes.
  • For preliminary joining two ropes, two Palsteke can be nested made.
  • Reliable is a Flemish -eight knot. He is, however, more difficult to make a detachable and expensive.
  • A thin line ( Zeising ) is connected to the Zeisingstek with a thick rope.
  • To connect thick ropes of Trossenstek is best suited.
  • To connect wet, slippery ropes suitable the fisherman's knot.
  • A highly secure connection is suitable the double fisherman's knot.
  • To connect nylon yarn ( monofilament fishing line ) suitable the fisherman's knot or fishing knots.

Modifications

  • With an additional turn of the double Schotstek arises.
  • With several extra turns of Zeisingstek arises.
  • To give a slimmer look to the Schotstek, the protruding end is put back again. Thus, it can for example be easier to pull through grommets and has " cleaned up ".
  • Inserted incorrectly, creates these adjacent insecure connection.
