History

The SMPDUO was founded in 2000 on the instructions of the ruling coalition 's Revolutionary Democratic Front Ethiopian Peoples ( EPRDF ) founded, which had hoped, within the local political environment three existing woredas - the Godere Special Woreda within the Gambela region and the woredas Sheko and Yeki from the southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples region - to unite to form a new ethnic zone. It follows that the organization received a bad reputation for his racist statements, which both the Democratic Movement of Südäthiopischen Peoples ( member party of the EPRDF ), and the opposition of the Democratic coalition of nations Südäthiopischen dissuaded them to cooperate with the organization SMPDUO.

At meetings held at the end of the year 2001 elections, the SMPDUO gained control of the majority of the kebeles in Sheko and claimed the victory in the Woreda Yeki. The first official act of the organization after the takeover of power was the disarmament of the Kebele militia in areas where the National Electoral Authority of Ethiopia to win the elections not complaining, but the SMPDUO came across resistance. After months of frustration marched individuals in connection with the SMPDUO to Tippi, and there led to ethnic violence.
