Shen Congwen

Shen Congwen (沉 从 文Chinese沉 从 文, born December 28, 1902 Fenghuang county of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture in Hunan Province; † 10 May 1988 in Beijing) was a Chinese writer.

Life

As the son of a military family, he experienced the horrors of the Revolution of 1911 with first-hand, as this also reached his hometown. At 15, he is first a soldier himself. From this time in the areas adjacent to the province of Sichuan mountain areas his later works are decisively shaped and its origins come from according his protagonists mostly a simple environment or include the ethnic minority Miao on. His paternal grandmother belonged to the Nationality of Miao, his mother was a Tujia.

At the Cultural Revolution, he was again the victim of a smear campaign and forced into this framework in 1969 at a great age to physical labor, but eventually rehabilitated again after its end.

From 1978, again scientists at the Institute of History of the Academy of Social Sciences, 1980 is one of his short stories as the basis for a screenplay. Two years later he became a member of the Association for Literary and Art Circles and again a year later he enters the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference on.

Compared to other authors of this period is characteristic of his work, the strong influence of tradition and classical literature.
