The Shenyang J -15 Flying Shark is a carrier-based fighter which is being developed at Shenyang Aircraft Corporation for the Chinese navy. The J -15 is based on the Russian Sukhoi Su -33, which had however in contrast to the J -11 is not a license version of the Flanker family.

Development

The development of the J -15 probably goes back to the year 2001, when China is said to have acquired the Su-33 prototype T -10K - 3, which was incorporated in Ukraine. The machine should have been intensively studied and have served as the basis for the J -15.

The first information about the J -15 arrived in June 2010, the Russian Defense Ministry to the public. So confirmed Colonel Igor Korotschenko that the J -15 "Su -33 clone " and that, as had been previously believed still no stealth aircraft as part of the J -XX program. The Russian Defense Ministry assumes that the J -15 was developed, inter alia, in violation of the license agreement for the J -11. 1995 China had to build 200 Su- 27SK acquired for U.S. $ 2.5 billion, the license rights machinery, referred to as J -11. According Korotschenko the J -15 was also first J- 11BH told, what the significance of the J -11 J -15 for the receipts and the reason is why the negotiations to sell the Su-33 " Flanker -D" to China 2006 and 2009 failed.

The maiden flight of the J -15 took place on August 31, 2009.

Technology

The machine is powered by two Shenyang WS -10 turbofan engines, which can develop a thrust of 126 kN each. First shots of the J -15 were published in July 2010, on which the similarity to the Su-33 is clearly visible. Thus, the J- 15 also has, for example canards and horizontal tail. The J -15 is to be used in the future on the aircraft carrier Liaoning.

It has an active electronically -scanning AESA radar, an infrared- based search and location system and is coated with radar-absorbing materials. Aerodynamically to the J -15 fighter aircraft all regional forces, to be with the exception of the American F- 22, equal or superior.

In an exercise in January 2014 J -15 with four air - to-air missiles had (two of type PL -12 type PL -8, two) equipped.
