Shepperd's Dell

The Shepperd 's Dell State Park is a 210 acre state park in Multnomah County in the U.S. state of Oregon. The park is located on the Historic Columbia River Highway. In the immediate vicinity is the Rooster Rock State Park, each about 2 km away are the Bridal Veil Falls State Scenic Viewpoint and Guy W. Talbot State Park.

From the parking lot it is a short way into a canyon in the Young 's Creek with the Sheppards Dell Falls, a two-stage waterfall, opens. The upper waterfall is 13 m high, the lower 15 m meters. The canyon is crossed by a bridge of the Historic Columbia River Highway, in 1913 by the engineer KR Billner was built and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge is clearly visible from the waterfall made. The parking area is otherwise in a rocky area and is hardly accessible. To the east of the park of the Angel 's Rest Trail, a 3.7 km long route begins at a vantage point above the Columbia River Gorge.

The use of the parking is free.

History

The Lewis and Clark expedition rested on the premises from 6 to 8 April 1806. The land was owned by the dairy farmer George D. Shepperd. He donated it to the city of Portland in 1915 in memory of his late wife. The city donated the land later to the State. Between 1940 and 1984, the park area was extended by donations, purchase and exchange of land to its present size.
