Sherif Sonbol

Sherif Sonbol (December 6, 1956 in Giza ) is an Egyptian social criticism photographer.

Life

Sonbol was born as the son of an engineer. His mother died shortly after his childhood. With three years he was diabetic. His desire to study medicine to find a cure for diabetes mellitus, it did not succeed. For this he was for billing and underwriters for the Navy an Egyptian Reinsurance Company. At that time he had taken the photograph as a hobby.

After about seven years Sonbol left the reinsurance company and worked in the photography department of the Egyptian, Arabic newspaper " Al -Ahram Al- Yomi ". This was in his time the most famous newspaper in the Middle East. As the government salaries were too low and not even enough for the purchase of a pot, the photographer left the newspaper.

Shortly after, another magazine called " nesf El -Donia ", the photography department Sonbol created and therefore also conducted.

To this end, he worked in the U.S. Embassy in Cairo as a graphic designer and taught simultaneously in the Information Category (IT).

Despite the ten-fold greater content of the U.S. Embassy in relation to that at the newspaper, he opted for a termination because he did not like office work.

Fortunately, opened the Egyptian " Al -Ahram " Foundation, a new English-language newspaper called " Al -Ahram Weekly". There he was first a photographer, now he has become director of the photography department.

Especially through his photos and articles in this newspaper his name was well known among foreigners.

He thanks his name known mainly to the magazine " Kalam Al Naas ". There he took the photograph of the Arabic- known celebrities and stars, what the public was impressed. The then newly founded magazine " Maraia Al Naas " in which only interior decorations and residential buildings were discussed, Sherif Sonbol took over completely from photographic point of view. The text was taken by his colleague Moguib Rushdy. Other major workers did not exist.

Since 1988, the photographer works at Cairo Opera House and has to publish two books. He is and has been since the opening of the opera in the main photographer.

Otherwise Sherif Sonbol is a freelance photographer and designed photo books. His photos can be seen in books and in exhibitions.

Work

This artist works his land exploring herself. This can still be found in his books. He photographed the Egyptian lifestyle, Egyptian music groups or people on the street. He goes before criticizing it, but at the same time shows the traditions and beauty that are hidden behind them. For example, the book is " Mulid! Carnivals of Faith " only by the Egyptian traditional festivals. This was considered the first photo book that was photographed by an Egyptian.

The photographer still remain more unique, rare photos of superstitious Egyptian cult ( Arab: Tsar ). < this, he would like to publish a book. he would like to publish in a book.

His another book " 40 Pyramids of Egypt and Their neighours " refers only to 40 pyramids of ancient Egyptian empire, it connects but with the modern Egypt, the so-called "neighbors". The book is characterized to be the first book on Egyptian antiquities by an Egyptian photographer. It is the first of its kind to be translated into Arabic.
