Shi Liang (1900–1985)

Shi Liang (* March 27, 1900; † 6 September 1985) was a Chinese politician.

Biography

Shi Liang took already on the May Fourth Movement in 1919 in Changzhou part, which had its origin in the student protests against the Treaty of Versailles, and in 1925 on the motion of May 13, an anti-imperialist labor movement. After completing his studies in law, she joined in 1927 after the Nanchang Uprising in the People's Liberation Army and was assistant for political work in Qingdao, before settling down in 1931 as lawyer in Shanghai.

After the Mukden Incident in Manchuria on 18 September 1931, she is actively involved in the resistance against the Japanese occupation force and is later arrested by this because of the participation in further protests. In 1942 she became a member of the China Democratic League.

After the founding of the People 's Republic of China on October 1, 1949, she became the first Minister of Justice, the government of Prime Minister Zhou Enlai and held this office until 1959. She was so beside Health Minister Li Dequan one of two first ministers in the government.

At the same time it was from 1949 until her death a member of the National People's Congress. In this she was 1953-1979 Vice - Chairman and then from 1979 to 1985 member of the Bureau. She was most recently in 1985 the Executive Chairman of the third session of the 6th National People's Congress.

Shi Liang, who was from 1978 to 1985 and Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference of the Chinese people ( CPPCC ), was also between 1979 and her death chairman of the China Democratic League, a permitted addition of the Communist Party of China and organized in the CPPCC party.
