Shibuichi

Shibuichi (Japanese四分 一, dt " a quarter ") is a collective term for silver-bearing copper alloys, which are known in Japan since the 8th century and were used there for making jewelery. Which is also referred to as a quarter- silver alloy typically consists of from 5 to 25 % silver and the balance copper.

If the silver content is about 40%, then it is considered Shiro shibuichi ( " ~ W " ) refers to. There is also the Kuro shibuichi ("black - ~" ), which consists of the alloys Shakudo and shibuichi. The proportion of shibuichi in this alloy is usually 20-40%.

Shibuichi has a light to dark gray color, depending on the silver content and has been used due to the lack of precious metals in the former Japan very versatile. Among other things, as silver-colored ingredient in Mokume -Gane - ironwork.
