Shigeo Arai

Shigeo Arai (Japanese新 井 茂雄; born August 8, 1916 in Shizuoka, Shizuoka Prefecture, † July 19, 1944 in Myanmar ) was a Japanese swimmer.

Together with Masanori Yusa, Shigeo Sugiura and Taguchi Masaharu he was at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin Olympic champion with the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay. Moreover, more than 100 m freestyle, he won the bronze medal.

Shigeo Arai was a soldier in the Japanese army in Burma.

In 1997 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
