Shimon Stein

Shimon Stein ( born March 9, 1948 in Hadera, Palestine ) is an Israeli diplomat. From January 2001 to the autumn of 2007, Stein was Israeli Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.

Life and career

Stein studied Modern History (BA and MA) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. During his military service in 1967 the Six-Day War took place, in which he participated as a paratrooper. 1974 Stone joined the diplomatic service, initially from 1974 to 1980 as a senior analyst at the Center for Policy Research of the Israeli Foreign Ministry. In 1979, he was a trainee at the European Communities. Already from 1980 to 1985, he worked for the first time in Germany, as Counselor for Political Affairs at the Israeli embassy in Bonn.

Further stations of his career were: 1984 member of the Israeli delegation to the CSCE Conference, Mediterranean Division. 1985-1986 Deputy Director, North America Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, Jerusalem. 1986-1988 Deputy Director, Office of Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, Jerusalem. 1988-1993 Minister- Counselor for Political Affairs, Embassy of Israel Washington, DC (1998-1993) and in various positions, in turn, the Israeli foreign ministry.

1993-1997 Ambassador, Director of the Department of Arms Control and Disarmament, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, Jerusalem. 1998 Deputy Secretary of State, Director of the Department of the CIS and Central and Eastern Europe Countries in the Israeli Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem.

January 11, 2001 he was appointed by the then Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as successor by Avi Primor the Israeli Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. In September 2007, his term of office ended nominally in Germany; his successor in this position until 2012 Yoram Ben- Zeev. Current Ambassador Yakov Hadas - Handelsman.

Stein is married and has a son and a daughter. His hobbies include concerts, operas and ( active and passive ) football, athletics, basketball. He tried like to bring people together through art, for example by social evening at the Embassy.
