ShinMaywa US-2

The ShinMaywa US-2 is an amphibious SAR aircraft of the Japanese aircraft manufacturer ShinMaywa Industries. In the Japanese sea Self-Defense Forces they should replace the already since 1971 planes in service Shin Meiwa PS-1 or the updated version U.S. 1A in the SAR role.

Development

The first as U.S. 1A Kai ( Kai = improved) developed US -2, like its predecessor US -1A specifically designed to meet the needs of the Marine Self-Defense Forces to go. It is a direct continuation of U.S. 1A. The first prototype took flight testing on December 18, 2003, the second prototype followed in mid 2004.
