Shiplift

A ship lift, not to be confused with a boat lift is a device to lift boats out of the water. He is to be regarded as a complete replacement for a dry or floating dock or slipway. Smaller lifts are used as Stevendock.

Construction

A boat lift consists of a platform that is lowered underwater and moved vertically by means attached to land winches. On the lift usually is a transport system on which the ship then pulled ashore and is moved to a transverse to the vessel extending rail system to its repair station. By this means, one after several ships can be put ashore with the ship lift. The largest plant was installed in 1996 on the People Stralsund. It has a lifting capacity of 24,000 tons

A leading manufacturer of boat lifts is Maschinenfabrik Bröhl in Brohl- Lützing.
