Shire of Barcoo

- 25.283333333333141.96666666667Koordinaten: 25 ° 17 ' S, 141 ° 58' O The Shire of Barcoo is a Local Government Area ( LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland. The area is 61,821 km ² and has about 350 inhabitants.

Geography

The Shire is located in the southeast of the state on the border with South Australia about 1040 km west of the capital Brisbane.

Administrative headquarters of the LGA is Jundah with about 95 inhabitants. Other towns are Farrar Creek, Stonehenge, Tocal and Windorah.

History

As of 1870, the area was settled in 1880 and originated the places Windorah and Jundah. 1885 was the Barcoo district, named for the Barcoo River, which in turn takes its name from the indigenous people.

Management

The Barcoo Shire Council has five members. The Mayor ( mayor) and four other Councillor shall be elected by all residents of the Shire. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
