Shirley Chisholm

Shirley Anita St. Hill Chisholm ( born November 30, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York City; † January 1, 2005 in Ormond Beach, Florida) was an American politician and the first black Member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Chisholm was 1964-1968 deputies in the New York State Assembly. She was elected as first black MP in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1968 and represented there from 3 January 1969 to January 3, 1983 its located in upstate New York constituency. In 1972 she applied to the first black woman - unsuccessfully - for the nomination as presidential candidate of the Democratic Party.
