Shiv Kumar Sharma

Shiv Kumar Sharma ( born January 13, 1938 in Jammu ) is an Indian Santurvirtuose.

Under the guidance of his father, Uma Datta Sharma, he first learned tabla, santoor and vocals. After his first public appearance in 1955, he decided to exclusively for the Santurspiel. He is called Pandit.

Shiv Kumar Sharma is attributed to have made the formerly Kashmiri folk instrument to a concert instrument accepted for Indian classical music. Although it is not possible due to its structure, between the notes back and herzugleiten, and it is therefore for playing ragas something inappropriate, Sharma succeeded by changing the original instrument and new playing techniques to bring the santur in the concert halls.

His first international appearance in 1968, he had in the U.S. with Ravi Shankar. He then received repeated concert tours to Europe and America. With Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma joined up together and they played a CD. It occurs since the late 1990s to his also santur playing son Rahul. Sharma wrote numerous music for Hindi films.

He has been recipient of numerous awards including Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, a (1986 ), Padma Shri (1991 ) and the Padma Vibhushan ( 2001).

Shiv Kumar Sharma's name has become a synonym for Indian Santurmusik.
