Shizuoka University

The University of Shizuoka (Japanese静冈 大学, Shizuoka daigaku ) is a national university in Japan. The main campus is located in Ōya, Suruga -ku, Shizuoka in Shizuoka Prefecture.
History
The university was founded in 1949 by the merger of five state schools. The five were:
- High school Shizuoka (静冈 高等学校, Shizuoka Kōtō Gakko, founded in 1922 ),
- The First Normal School Shizuoka (静冈 第一 师范学校, Shizuoka dai -ichi shihan Gakko, founded in 1875 ),
- The Second Normal School Shizuoka (静冈 第二 师范学校, Shizuoka dai -ni shihan Gakko in Hamamatsu, founded in 1914 ),
- Youth Normal School Shizuoka (静冈 青年 师范学校, Shizuoka his shihan Gakko in Shimada, founded in 1926 ), and
- The pilot Hamamatsu (浜 松 工业 専 门 学校, Hamamatsu Kōgyō Semmon Gakko founded 1922).
The technical Hamamatsu was known for research on television by Prof. Kenjiro Takayanagi.
In 1951, the former prefectural Agricultural University Shizuoka (静冈 県 立 静冈 农科 大学, Shizuoka Shizuoka kenritsu Noka daigaku in Iwata ) to the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. 1968, the present-day Shizuoka campus was reopened, and the faculties except the Faculty of Engineering ( Hamamatsu ) moved to the campus.
