The University of Shumen ( Bulgarian Шуменски университет ) was founded in 1971 as a teacher training college in the northern Bulgarian town of Shumen, and expanded in 1995 to the University. The university bears the name of the Archbishop Konstantin Preslawski ( bugl. Епископ Константин Преславски / Episkop Konstantin Preslawski ) founder of the medieval alphabet School of Preslav, in the mid- 10th century, the Cyrillic alphabet was created on the.
The University is divided into five faculties:
- Faculty of Humanities
- Faculty of mathematics and computer science
- Faculty of Science
- Faculty of Engineering
- Faculty of Education
In addition, there is a college in Dobrich and a Department of Information and teacher training in Varna
