Si Sakhon District

Amphoe Si Sakhon ( Thai: อำเภอ ศรีสาคร ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) of Narathiwat Province. The Narathiwat province is located southeast of South Thailand, at the border to Malaysia.

Geography

Adjacent counties and regions are (from north clockwise): Amphoe the Rueso, Ra Ngae and Chanae Narathiwat province, as well as Amphoe Than To and Bannang Sata Yala province.

History

Originally the territory of today's Si Sakhon district was a tambon in district Rueso named Sako. As of 1963-1974, a division of the Thai military was stationed in Sako, the infrastructure of the Tambon developed quickly. So the Interior Ministry set up on 23 September 1974 a small district ( King Amphoe ) named Si Sakhon, consisting of the two tambon Sako and Tamayung. On March 25, 1979 Si Sakhon got the full Amphoe status.

Management

Amphoe Si Sakhon is divided into six subdistricts ( tambon), which continued in 39 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

Si Sakhon ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ศรีสาคร ) is also the name of a small town ( thesaban tambon) in the district, it consists of parts of the tambon Si Sakhon and Sa Ko.

In addition, there are six " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
