SIAI-Marchetti SM.1019

The SIAI Marchetti - SM.1019 was a short take-off liaison aircraft, which was built on the basis of a request of the Italian army.

Development and Technology

When SM.1019 was an improved version of the Cessna L- 19, with which the Italian Army had been finished after the Second World War. The original SM.1019 whose first flight took place on 24 May 1969 was compared to the L- 19 is a more powerful engine ( Allison 250 - B15C ) and a revised tail unit. On the basis of the standard installation of the better turboprop turboprop Allison 250 - B17b (400 hp, 298 kW ) received the machines then the manufacturer name SM.1019A. The army designation was SM.1019EI. The Italian Army received from the summer of 1976 a total of 81 machines that were used to contact, observation and transport tasks. The planes are no longer in the military service. One machine is located in an aviation museum in San Possidonio in Modena, another in a military museum in Rome.
