James Hutton realized in 1788 with John Playfair and James Hall on the example of the visible layers of rock here until then hardly understandable appearing temporal dimensions at the expiration of geological processes. This information served him for demonstrating the successively occurring phenomena of sedimentation, folding, erosion and re- sedimentation. The former for the understanding of nature resulting incredibility of such geological processes indicated Hutton as evidence of the inevitably large periods in which such developments take place and, consequently, for the fact to be assumed antiquity of the earth. So he went in contradiction to the biblical doctrine of creation.
