Sick AG (own spelling: SICK ) based in Waldkirch (Breisgau ) is a global manufacturer of sensors for factory, logistics and process automation. The company employs approximately 6,500 people worldwide and generated 2013 sales of EUR 1,009.5 million.

History

The company in 1946 by Erwin Sick was founded in Vaterstetten near Munich. 1952 succeeded the economic breakthrough with the series production of the at the International Machine Tool Fair featured in Hannover safety light curtain. 1956, the company moved from Vaterstetten to Waldkirch (Breisgau ).

SICK AG has around 50 worldwide subsidiaries and investments, as well as numerous agencies. The company invests according to own data annually about 9 % of its turnover in research and development.

Products

To their product portfolio includes photoelectric sensors, light sensors and light curtains, inductive, capacitive and magnetic sensors, optoelectronic protective devices, vision sensors, detection, measurement and identification solutions such as Barcode scanner and RFID reader, analyzers for the gas and liquid analysis and apparatus for gas flow measurement.

SICK Stegmann GmbH develops and manufactures based in Donaueschingen motor feedback systems and encoders. Other daughters of SICK AG are the SICK Vertriebs GmbH, headquartered in Dusseldorf and the SICK Engineering GmbH, headquartered in Ottendorf- Okrilla ( near Dresden ).

Generally

Is particularly well known for Sick laser scanner (Security ), port and robotics can be used as a sensor in the area property protection. Five of these laser scanners have been to Stanley, the driverless car that the Darpa Grand Challenge won in 2005, are used. Of the 6,302 employees are employed in Germany 3836.
