The common broad forehead bubble head fly ( Sicus ferrugineus ) is a species of the family of the bubble -headed flies ( Conopidae ).

Features

The flies reach a body length of 8.5 to 9.5 millimeters. Your body is rust colored, the face is yellow, the end and the apex are dull, the bottom of the face, however, is brilliant. The Ocellenfleck on top of the relatively large head is dark brown. The short antennae are brown, her second term is equal to or longer than the third. The two-tier proboscis is dark brown to black. The abdomen is round in cross section, the seventh segment is elongated and conical. The abdomen is particularly hook-shaped curved in the male at the end. The wings are transparent, but colored red-yellow at the base.

Occurrence and life

The animals come in Asia, Europe and North Africa frequently. The species is in Central Europe, the most common of the family and from May to September all habitats. The adults are flower visitors, the larvae develop as parasites of bumblebees.
