Siderosis

As sideroses refers diseases in which salts of iron to be deposited in the body (iron storage disorders ). We divide primary ( congenital ) and secondary ( acquired ) sideroses. The iron content of the body can increase if sideroses up to ten times the normal limit.

The most important primary siderosis is the classic (adult ) autosomal recessive hereditary hemochromatosis.

Secondary sideroses occur after chronic intake of excessive amounts of iron, for example, in chronic overdose of oral iron supplements or after years of transfusion therapy of hemolytic anemias and in patients with alcohol- toxic liver damage.
