The Siding Spring Observatory near Coonabarabran, Australia, is part of the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics ( RSAA ) of the Australian National University ( ANU). The most important part of the observatory is the British-Australian Anglo - Australian Observatory ( AAO ), which the Anglo - Australian Telescope and the UK Schmidt Telescope operates. There are also a number of other telescopes, which include the Australian National University, the University of New South Wales and other institutions. The observatory is located in 1165 meters altitude in Warrumbungles National Park in the Siding Spring Mountains and is registered under the IAU code 413.
