Siebenbürgen (band)

Transylvania is a metal band from Sweden, which is characterized by a mixture of gothic metal and black metal as well as various voices and in this way produces a very variable sound. The band can be assigned to a total of the Dark Metal; she calls her style as " Vampyric Metal" (as well as Cradle of Filth ), because their lyrics often come from older vampire and horror stories. The group name goes back to the region of Transylvania in Romania today, which among other things as is known from Transylvania vampire stories such as Dracula.

Band History

Transylvania was founded in 1994 by Marcus Ehlin (guitar, vocals) and Anders Rosdahl (drums). In the same year was joined by bassist Fredrick Brockert. In this occupation and with the support of violinist and singer Lovisa Hallstedt the band released their first demo album Transylvania (1996). Shortly thereafter, they were reinforced by the guitarist Linus Ekström. In the same year, the band played a their second demo Ungentum Pharelis, with whom she got a record deal with Napalm Records.

In April 1997, her debut album Loreia came on the market, which is noticed by the characteristic style. Already in January 1998 published Transylvania 's second album Grimjaur - like all previous releases again with Lovisa Hallstedt. This left the band in 1999 and was replaced by vocalist Kicki Hoijertz with which the band grossed Album Delictum in February 2000. Unlike the previous albums ( with - in addition to English and German - notably Swedish texts) the band wrote for this album their material predominantly in English.

In 2000, Richard Bryngelsson joined the band and took over the guitar, Marcus Ehlin focused exclusively on singing. Their 2001 release, the fourth album Plagued Be Thy Angel. As a result, Linus Ekström and Kicki Hoijertz were replaced by Fredrik Folkare and Turid Walderhaug, the latter in turn shortly thereafter by Erika Roos.

After recording Darker Designs and Images in 2005, the band announced its dissolution on 2 February 2006. In a joint statement, the band members reasoned that a lack of energy and inspiration to continue the band. Nearly two years later, in November 2007, Marcus Ehlin reanimated the band. In addition to guitarist Richard Bryngelsson and Ehlin himself as a singer and bassist, the newly added members Dennis Ekdahl form the band as drummer and keyboard player Johnnie Gunther. On 13 June 2008, the date last album Revelation VI was released by Massacre Records.
