Siegfried H. Elsing

Siegfried H. Elsing (* 1950 in Essen ) is a German business lawyer. He is a senior partner of Germany global law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP and Honorary Professor at the Heinrich -Heine- University of Dusseldorf.

Career

Siegfried H. Elsing studied law at the Universities of Freiburg, Lausanne and Münster. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Work and Business Law at the Westfälische Wilhelms -Universität Münster. In 1976 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Advanced liability limited partners limited partnership and atypical at the former judge at the Federal Constitutional Court, Prof. Dr. Hans Brox, Doctor of Laws ( Dr. iur. ). In 1979 he graduated from the Yale Law School, the academic degree of Master of Laws ( LL.M.).

Siegfried H. Elsing is approved in Germany since 1979 as an attorney in New York since 1983 and as Attorney -at -Law. The focus of his law practice is in the areas of Arbitration, M & A transactions, investment, energy law, corporate law, financing, joint ventures and German -American legal relations. Siegfried H. Elsing worked as a lawyer representative, the presiding arbitrator, sole arbitrator or party-appointed arbitrators in more than 150 national and international arbitration proceedings (ICC, DIS, ICSID, SCC, VIAC, UNCITRAL, ad hoc, etc.). It shall also meet in the German courts as an expert on U.S. law and courts in the U.S. and in the UK as an expert on German law. Another focus of his work as a lawyer, and forms the advice of the Advisory Board and Supervisory Board members.

He founded in 1989 the firm Hölters & Elsing and initiated in 2008 with the merger of the U.S. law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.

Siegfried H. Elsing was appointed to international disputes in 2011 by the President of the World Bank as a member of the ICSID Panel of Conciliators as a recommended arbitrator.

Since 1999 he teaches at the Heinrich -Heine- University Dusseldorf commercial arbitration and international civil procedural law. In 2007 he was appointed Honorary Professor. In addition, he regularly gives lectures at home and abroad and publishes articles in the fields of arbitration and international commercial law.

Siegfried H. Elsing is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of nobilia -Werke J. Stickling GmbH & Co. KG. It also adopted in North Rhine -Westphalia ( with the exception of the City of Aachen and the districts of Aachen, Düren and Heinberg ) assumed the office of the Honorary Consul of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on 15 May 2013.

Memberships

Siegfried H. Elsing is a board member of the American Arbitration Association (AAA ) and the German Institution of Arbitration ( DIS). From 1990 to 1991 he was President of the Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats ( AIJA ) from 2007 to 2008 he was Chairman of the Mediation Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA). He is also a member of numerous national and international bar associations (AAA, ABA, AIJA, ASA, German Bar Association, DIS, IBA, ICCA, LCIA ).
