Siekiera

Siekiera is a punk and cold wave band from the city of Pulawy in Poland, which was active from the turn of 1983/84 until 1988.

The band is considered one of the pioneers of the punk and New Wave movement in Poland, their album Nowa Aleksandria (named after the former name of Pulawy ) as a milestone of the Polish independent music. The band's name in German means " ax ".

History

Siekiera was founded by Tomasz Adamski (Guitar, lyrics, music), Tomasz Budzyński (vocals), Dariusz Malinowski (bass) and Krzysztof Grela (drums). Musically Siekiera classified in their first occupation as a typical punk band whose music is reminiscent of internationally known models such as the UK Subs or Exploited. First notoriety gained the band in the spring of 1984 by a concert in Warsaw's student club Remont and by the Polish youth radio Rozgłośnia Harcerska that radiates excerpts from the concert. To Polish punk legend - despite the small scale of their work - is the band through their appearance on the Punk Rock Festival in the same year in JAROCIN.

After conflicts with band leader Tomasz Adamski on the further musical direction of the band leaves in October 1984 singer Tomasz Budzyński Siekiera and will shortly become one of the founders of the punk group Armia. Even drummer Krzysztof Grela gets out; for added Zbigniew Musiński (drums) and Paweł Młynarczyk (keyboard). The band changed their style of punk to Cold Wave and takes 1986, the album Nowa Aleksandria on having musical similarities with the former music of bands like Killing Joke. Many fans of punk music from Siekiera accuse the group musical betrayal.

In 1988, the band dissolves. Bandleader Tomasz Adamski operated thereafter as a poet and theater director, Tomasz Budzyński since 1984 singer of the band Armia. Zbigniew Musinski (drums) emigrated to Germany and lives in Nuremberg.
