Sierra de las Minas

The Sierra de las Minas is a 130 km long and 30 km wide mountain range in eastern Guatemala. It extends in an east-west direction at 4274 km ² between the Río Polo Chic in the north and the Río Motagua in the south and the Lake Izabal in the east. He reached in Cerro Raxon with 3015 m at its highest point. Along the main ridge is the boundary between the departments of Izabal, Zacapa and El Progreso, in the western foothills of the rich to go to Baja Verapaz.

A large part of the Sierra de las Minas is a nature reserve ( Biosphere Reserve ), the establishment of a national park is planned.
