Sierra Nevada Corporation
Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC ) is a provider of electronic systems and systems integrator headquartered in Sparks, in the U.S. state of Nevada. The company has concluded the U.S. Military, NASA and private space companies.
Overview
The SNC consists of six different divisions, prevail on armaments and aerospace. In addition, the company is expanding into areas such as renewable energy, telemedicine, nanotechnology, grid-connected operations, small satellites and space travel. There are around 30 sites in 16 U.S. states along with numerous customer service centers around the world.
History
The company was founded in 1963 by John Chisolm. It started as a small company with a few employees and worked from an airplane hangar in Stead Nevada from. Later this became the possession of Chisolms daughter Michelle Chisolm Bergenfield and was acquired in 1994 by the Turkish origin Fatih and Eren Ozmen spouses. Fatih was initially a self of recruited from Chisolm people and is associated with the company since 1981.
On 16 December 2008, the SNC announced the full acquisition of SpaceDev. SNC SpaceDev took over from the development of the space shuttle Dream Chaser. The Sierra Nevada Corporation has been awarded with an initial investment of 20 million U.S. dollars for the development of the Dream Chaser within the phase 1 of the CCDev program of NASA on February 1, 2010. Thus, the Dream Chaser award a majority of the 50 million U.S. dollar prize purse of Phase 1 of the CCDev program dar.
On August 3, 2012, the NASA two new agreements with the Sierra Nevada Corporation and two other companies announced with the aim to develop the next generation of transportation systems for manned space flight, the next a start of astronauts from U.S. soil from the to enable five years. Progress being made by the companies under the Space Act Agreements by the Commercial Crew Integrated Capability ( CCiCap ) initiative should lead to better availability of commercial services to the manned space program for government and commercial customers. As part of this agreement the Sierra Nevada Corporation were 212.5 million dollars awarded to continue the development and testing of the Dream Chaser. The Dream Chaser is designed according to the decommissioned Space Shuttle in the lifting -body design.
On January 13, 2013 it was announced that the European Space Agency ESA has entered into an agreement with deer SNC to explore a futures cooperation.
Assignments and Projects
On 27 February 2013, offered by the Sierra Nevada Corporation and its partner Embraer combat aircraft Embraer EMB 314 won a tender offer to the Afghan military education and training resources.
RocketMotorTwo
SNC is the main supplier of RocketMotorTwo for the private space plane SpaceShipTwo and developed the rocket engine for Scaled Composites. On 29 April 2013, the SpaceShipTwo completed the first test flight with the RocketMotorTwo with exceeding the speed of sound.
Development of reconnaissance aircraft
Gorgon Stare is a wide-area surveillance sensor and is used on the MQ - 9 Reaper at the Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, with the help of the USAF Squadron 53rd Wing, developed and tested. The sensors were in housing development since 2009 by the Air Force 's Big Safari group and the Sierra Nevada Corp..
