Sigbjørn Obstfelder

Sigbjørn Obstfelder ( born November 21, 1866 in Stavanger, † July 29, 1900 in Copenhagen) was a Norwegian writer and poet. He studied philology and construction in Christiania (Oslo ). In the years 1890-91 he worked as a civil engineer in the United States. His true calling, he found only later when he decided to spend his life with a hike through Scandinavia. Under the influence of the French symbolists and Sören Kierkegaard Obstfelder articulated in the rhythmic and evocative verse of his early " defendant " of existential angst embossed worldview. His feeling to have come to a " wrong planet ", let him look out mystical driving forces of existence. So many of his works were gloomy. On motives and problems of the Obstfelder seals among other things, attacked Rainer Maria Rilke back.
