Sight and Life

Sight and Life is a humanitarian initiative to combat micronutrient deficiency in the world. They lobby for improved nutrition, poverty reduction, justice and sustainable development.

History

The initiative was founded in 1986 as an independent and humanitarian Operating as of F. Hoffmann -La Roche. Since 2003, Sight and Life of DSM Nutritional Products AG in Basel / Switzerland will continue. Sight and Life is led by Secretary General Dr. Klaus Krämer. Since its inception, Sight and Life has spent 32 million U.S. dollars for 3,200 humanitarian projects in over 80 countries in Africa and Asia. This includes support and research projects, technical support, scholarships, conferences and supplementation with vitamin A and micronutrients. This was including through the distribution of more than 75 million vitamin A capsules to children between six months and five years. In addition, projects have been supported, who the research, education, training and distribution of vitamin A capsules is prescribed.

Sight and Life is not just limited to the elimination of vitamin A deficiency. The focus of activities is on an adequate supply of all essential micronutrients. Malnutrition is due to a combined deficiency of vitamins and minerals. The initiative seeks to combat micronutrient- deficient related problems. In the foreground is the double burden of malnutrition (double burden of malnutrition ) and the dietary form of anemia.

Sight and Life, among other works, together with the WHO (World Health Organization ), WFP ( World Food Programme ), Save the Children, the Swiss Red Cross, the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA and ETH Zurich, Switzerland.

Dialogue and nutrition policy

Sight and Life organizes since 2008 the annual dialogue nutrition and Security Affairs in Berlin. The aim of the series is to bring together experts from society, politics, media and business to discuss the dangers of a possible malnutrition in children and adolescents and to develop common approaches.
