Sigmund of Pernstein

Sigmund von Pernštejna ( Zikmund Czech Pernštejn; * 1437, † 1473 or later ) was a Moravian nobleman. As followers of the Bohemian King George of Podiebrad he was taken prisoner of the anti-king Matthias Corvinus.

Life

Sigmund came from the Moravian aristocratic family of the lords of Pernštejna. His parents were Johann von Pernštejna and his first wife Barbara von Waldstein ( Barbora z Valdštejna ).

Like his father and his younger brother Wilhelm Sigmund supported the Bohemian King George of Podiebrad. Around the mid- 1460s, his father wrote to him about the castle Zubštejn together with the associated rule. In 1467 he was taken prisoner by the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus, who wanted to gain the crown of Bohemia. Together with Jan von Košumberk he was transferred to Brno and imprisoned there. The duration of his prison stay is not known. Presumably he was later than 1469 released since 1470 his daughter Dorothea / Dorota was born.

As early as 1470, Sigmund fell again in captivity. This time he was held by the leader of the Green Alliance Berger Zdeněk of Sternberg on the seat in Polná. Even after the death of George of Podiebrad 1471 failed Sigmund's father and brother Wilhelm made to free Sigmund. They supported the newly elected king Vladislav II, from which it received in 1471 and also in 1472 certain rights over the monasteries in Oslavany and Tišnov. Although they provided money for the release of her son and brother, Corvin demanded of William the crossing to his side and the support of his military projects, and presumably also the conversion to Catholicism. On November 14, 1472 Wilhelm signed in Sopron, a corresponding agreement, which was linked to his brother's release, which should be released no later than February 2, 1473. For the release probably sat Corvin a consultant and later Olomouc bishop John Filipec.

Sigmund, who was probably in poor health of the prison, was able to enjoy the regained freedom not last long. He died in 1473 or later. His widow Elizabeth of Boskowitz continued to live with her little daughters on the castle Zubštejn, which was assigned as her jointure. After her remarriage before 1476 with Linhard of Guttenstein ( Linhart Gutštejna z ), the castle was returned to her father John.
