Sigrid Gurie

Sigrid Gurie ( born May 18, 1911 in New York City, New York; † August 14, 1969 in Mexico City, Mexico) was a Norwegian- American actress.

Sigrid Gurie Haukelid was born in Brooklyn. My twin brother Knut Haukelid later became a major resistance fighters in Norway against the Nazis. The father Bjørulf Haukelid Knutson (1878-1944) was a mechanic and returned in 1914 with his family only to Norway, later Gurie went to Sweden and Belgium to acting school. 1935 married Gurie Thomas Stewart in California, but in 1938 she got a divorce again. Two other marriages were also later divorced.

In 1936, Gurie to Hollywood. Producer Samuel Goldwyn was planning to present Gurie as the new Greta Garbo and launched it in the press as a " siren of the fjords " or " the Norwegian Garbo ". She had a minor role in 1937 in the film adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque's The Road Back. In the following year Goldwyn put them next to Gary Cooper and Basil Rathbone in The Adventures of Marco Polo. In addition to Charles Boyer and Hedy Lamarr, Sigrid Gurie was also seen in 1938 in Walter Wanger Algiers. Her career did not take the hoped-for boom and the actress appeared in the following years in B- movies, daruner 1940 Three Faces West at the side of John Wayne.

1950 graduated Gurie their last of 13 film appearances. Soon thereafter devoted Sigrid Gurie of paintings, including landscape paintings and abstract paintings. She designed among other jewelry for Royal Copenhagen.
