Sigurd Pettersen

Sigurd Pettersen Ørjan ( born February 28, 1980 in Kongsberg ) is a former Norwegian ski jumper.

Career

Pettersen took relatively late first part in a World Cup ski jumping. As a 21- year-old he joined in 2002 to Hakuba. He was discovered by the former head coach of the Norwegian national team Mika Kojonkoski. Already in its second World Cup season 2002/ 03 Pettersen won two World Cup competitions.

His victory in the Four Hills Tournament 2003/ 04 was only the second Norwegian success in the last 30 years, after the Norwegians had the tour in the 1950s and 1960s still dominated.

Due to a FIS rule change in the summer of 2004, the body mass index concerning Pettersen had to put on a few kilos to continue using his usual ski length. Having to jump With this new body sensation, proved difficult. A 2nd place in Lillehammer was his best result of the season 2004/05.

Also the following winter was not much better. Two fifth places in Harrachov / Czech Republic and Willingen ( Upland), his best individual results. With the team, he was third in Willingen. At the Olympic Games in Turin / Pragelato he was only 24 on the large hill, so that he was not nominated for the team competition, in which the Norwegians won bronze.

Due to good results in the Summer Grand Prix 2006, where he respectively 13 and 11 in Oberhof was in Zakopane and Klingenthal, he was able to increase his last sloping services again.

After a 15th place in Kuusamo at the start of the World Cup season 2006/ 07 but it went downhill again, so he lodged a World Cup break to Engelberg and only in Titisee -Neustadt was with positions 20 and 13 back for sure. The best results of the season were ever a 4th place in Willingen and Planica. 13 January 2008 Pettersen was surprising jump with a 2nd place podium in Val di Fiemme. It was his last podium place in the World Cup so far. Since 2008, Pettersen was determined to Norwegian ski jumping Continental Cup squad and was only irregularly nominated for World Cup competitions. In Continental Pettersen has already won several jumping, including Engelberg and Brown location since 2008.

December 29, 2003, he holds with 143.5 meters the hill record on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf.

After the 2009/10 season, he finished his ski jumping career.
