Sigurður Eggerz

Sigurdur Eggerz ( born March 1, 1875 in Borðeyri, † November 16, 1945 in Reykjavík ) was an Icelandic politician ( Old Independence Party, Independence Party later ). He was Finance and Minister of Justice and two-time Prime Minister of Iceland.

Biography

In 1903, Sigurdur from the University of Copenhagen, a university degree in law.

In the years 1911-1915, 1916-1926 and again from 1927 to 1931 he was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althingi. In the spring of 1922 he was also president of the Althing.

On 21 July 1914 he took over from the Prime Minister Hannes Hafstein, his successor was on May 4, 1915 Einar Arnórsson.

On August 28, 1917 Sigurdur took over from Björn Kristjánsson finance minister, which he gave on 25 February 1922 Magnús Guðmundsson.

On March 7, 1922, he took over the office of the Icelandic Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and retained both offices until March 22, 1924. Predecessor as successor was Jón Magnússon.

Sigurdur was co-founder of the Independence Party of Iceland, which was created in 1929.

Family

With his wife, Solveig, whose father was Kristján Jónsson, he had two children, Petur and Erna. Petur Eggerz worked as a diplomat in the State Department, including as ambassador to Germany. It was after his return to Iceland writer.
