Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn

The Sihltal Zurich Uetliberg Bahn ( SZU ) is a company domiciled in Switzerland transport company headquartered in Zurich. The result is the SZU in 1973 by the merger of Sihltalbahn ( SiTb ) and the Uetliberg railway ( BZUe ).

The SZU is one of eight market- responsible companies ( MVU ) introduced in 1990 Zurich Transport Network ( CRVO ). Business

The SZU is a public company headquartered in Zurich Wiedikon, which is also where the operating headquarters of the company. The share capital amounts to approximately 9.72 million Swiss francs, divided since 1995 into 97'238 bearer shares at CHF 100. The major shareholders are the municipality of Zurich with 32.6 %, the federal government 27.8 %, and the Canton of Zurich with 23.8 % of the share capital; the five neighboring communities Knives, Langnau am Albis, Horgen, Thalwil and Ringlikon hold a total of 6.8% of the shares, the remaining 9.0% are in free float.

The SZU is since the merger in 1973 the owner of the routes of Sihltalbahn and Uetlibergbahn, and operator of the railway lines of the same name. The network of SZU measures since 1990 27.76 kilometers and is divided due to different current systems in two sub-networks, which are operated by two transport lines.

The standard gauge lines of Sihltalbahn measure total and 19.70 km are electrified with 15 kV 16.7 Hz AC. The 18.62 km long mainline Zurich HB- Langnau - Gattikon - Sihlbrugg will sail on 14.46 km of the S 4. On the 1.08 km long link Giesshübel Wiedikon operate normally only freight trains.

Since 10 December 2006, the passenger traffic is set at the 4.16 km long section between Sihl and Sihlbrugg. This reduction was made to indemnify vehicles for schedule compression of the S4. The route remains provisionally receive operational and is sporadically traveled by vintage trains.

The standard gauge track of Uetlibergbahn measures 10.36 km and is electrified with 1200 V DC, where the current is collected through a 1300 mm laterally offset catenary. Due to the different current systems and route characteristics of the two railway lines SZU are still operationally separate and have little common rolling stock. Only the thermal engine vehicles and company cars are liberally used. See Baudienstzügen for track maintenance use. There are about 20 company cars, three quarters of which still comes from the previous tracks and the oldest dates back to the year 1894. Freight traffic is handled in the network access, particularly by SBB Cargo.

The vehicles used for passenger come from procurement of SZU, with the introduction of the S -Bahn Zurich contributed both to modernize, as well as for increasing the rolling farms. The since 1973 by the SZU procured vehicles are shown in the adjacent table.

The SZU has given the beginning of 2008 the purchase of two double-decker commuter trains (DPZ ) with Re -450 - locomotive of the SBB, for use on the Sihltalbahn known. Felseneggbahn
