Siikainen

Siikainen [ si ː kɑi̯nen ] is a municipality with 1645 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in Western Finland.

It is located in the hinterland of the landscape Satakunta. To the east, the land rises to the moraine of the Suomenselkä. Large parts of the municipal area is wooded or swampy; this terrain conditions at least know the Finnish rally driver to appreciate the year-round use here one of their most popular test routes.

The district counted since the Middle Ages to the parish Merikarvia and has existed since 1771 as an independent parish, as a political community since 1886. Beside the Kirchdorf Siikainen It includes the villages Haapakoski, Hirvijärvi, Leppijärvi, Leväsjoki, Nauriskoski, Osara, Otamo, Petkele, Pyntäinen, Saarikoski, Sammi, Samminmaja and Vuorijärvi. The wooden parish church was built from 1888 to 1889 after plans by KA Reinius after the previous building was burnt down after a lightning strike.
