Šilalė is a city and seat of the Rajongemeinde in the western part of Lithuania, in the region Žemaitija. It has about 6,100 inhabitants.

The first known mention of the village dates from the year 1533 in connection with the construction of a church. The town's name is derived from the Lithuanian word Silas ' (coniferous ) forest' fro.

Since 1994 there has been twinned with Stavenhagen.
