Silbersee (Langenhagen)

The Silver Lake in Langenhagen near Hannover is a recreational and lake.

Location and size

The lake is located in the southeast corner of the township north of the A2 motorway and south of the L382. The water surface covers about 6.8 ha direct adjacent to the northwest of the lake is the Paracelsus Clinic at Silver Lake, formerly Silver Lake Clinic, which is located directly on the property of the former municipal bathhouse.

History

The Silver Lake was built in the years 1934 to 1935 during the construction of the Hannover- Magdeburg- Berlin; the opening of this route No. 6 was made on 10 January 1936. The lake is usually deep by 10 meters at its deepest point about 15 meters. The name comes from the vernacular and is related to the nearby airport Hannover- Langenhagen. Because of the heavy air traffic over the lake, the water should have shone silver. The quarry was rebuilt in the 1950s to a communal bathhouse with swimmers pool and diving; he was fenced and the use cost during the season entry. On the west bank there was the Silver Lake Restaurant, which was used out of season by the Langenhagener citizens for family celebrations.

Later, the ticket booth was removed and transferred to the silver lake the custody of the German Life Saving Society ( DLRG ). The DLRG has on the west bank a guard station with an observation tower, which formerly stood at the Hanoverian transport hub Aegi. The lifeguards keep watch on weekends and in good weather and in the school holidays over the safety of bathers. Between 2003 and 2008, 16 people were saved from drowning by the DLRG.

Since the 1980s, play area, mini golf course and a restaurant and a kiosk with beer garden and toilet facilities were added. Use as a lake was supported by the delineation of large areas of shallow water with three adjacent sandy beaches and lawns.

The previously become known more often relatively poor water quality with strong growth of algae and problems with blue-green algae and cercariae of Silver Lake were no longer detected in the measurements in summer 2012.
