Sillingy

Sillingy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Sillingy is on 502 m above sea level. M., about 9 km northwest of the town of Annecy (air line). The village extends slightly increased in a broad basin that is drained to the Southeast to Fier. It lies west of La Mandallaz, at the foot of the Tête (900 m above sea level. M. ), with its striking rock formations, in Genevois.

Neighboring communities of Sillingy are Mésigny and La Balme -de- Sillingy in the north, Épagny in the east, and Poisy Nonglard in the south and Vaulx, Thusy and Chilly in the West.

History

The territory of Sillingy been inhabited since the Neolithic period and during the Roman period. On the latter point wall foundations and a coin hoard, which was discovered in the 19th century, back. Sillingy is mentioned in the 11th century for the first time under the name Silingiacus documented, as here, a priory was founded. The place name is derived from the tribe of the Vandals Silinger, who settled in the area of Sillingy in the 5th century.

Attractions

The village church of Sillingy dates from the 19th century. The church in La Combe was built in the Romanesque Revival style.

Population

With 4588 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Sillingy belongs to the medium-sized towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased initially due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Sillingy counted 1312 inhabitants). Since the beginning of the 1970s was, however, thanks to the beautiful residential area and close to Annecy again recorded a marked increase in population. Outside the old town center and not in the range of Arzy and La Combe came various single-family house neighborhoods.

Economy and infrastructure

Sillingy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various companies of small and medium enterprises.
