Silvius (mythology)

Silvius ( Silvius also Postumius ) was in Roman mythology, the son of Aeneas and Lavinia and the second king of Alba Longa.

His father at birth either very old or already dead, so he can not guard against the snares of Ascanius, the elder brother of the king of Alba Longa Silvius and protect the pregnant Lavinia. Lavinia therefore flees into the woods and there gives birth to the Silvius. Its name is derived, according to Diodorus of silva, the Latin word for forest ( mountain ), as Silvius was born in such and raised. After the death of Iulus to Silvius is in a popular election against Julius, son of Ascanius, by and is the second king of Alba Longa.

In another narration Silvius is the son of Iulus / Ascanius. He ruled for 29 years. Taking the reigns given by Dionysius of Halicarnassus with a back calculation from the traditional year of the founding of Rome, based as 1141-1112 BC His successor is his son Aeneas Silvius, or in Ovid Latinus Silvius, or otherwise does not comply with the years known Tiberius.

All the kings of Alba Longa Silvius contributed by " Silvius " as a nickname.
