Silvolde

Silvolde is a village in the Dutch municipality of Oude IJsselstreek ( Achterhoek in the province of Gelderland ). It has about 5800 inhabitants and is adjacent to the small town Terborg. South flows the Oude IJssel.

The predominantly Catholic village, that is the carnival Zillewold, it is said by a thriving social life. A recurring event is the so-called daklozenfeest ( " Homeless Hard "). About Local significance of the Almende College: In Silvolde are the locatie Isala ( High School and University student, havo / vwo ) and the locatie Bluemers ( elementary and secondary school level, vmbo ).

History and name

The name was first mentioned in 1188 Silvolde. Maybe it comes from suli, a Germanic word for a house that consists of a room, and wold, reason with bushes. Alternative explanations refer to the near by flowing IJssel ( Isala ) and Wold (forest ).
