Simon Jan van Ooststroom

Simon Jan van Ooststroom ( born January 2, 1906 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, † September 28, 1982 in Oegstgeest ) was a Dutch botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Ooststr. "; earlier was also the abbreviation " Ooststoom " in use.

Life

Oostroom was 1927-1934 research assistant at the Botanical Museum and Herbarium in Utrecht; from the University of Utrecht in 1934 received his doctorate. As a result, he was initially co-worker, curator of the Dutch Rijksherbarium in Leiden. In February 1971, he retired.

He collected during several trips through Europe a variety of plants. Oostroom was the author of several taxonomic publications, mainly wind plants ( Convolvulaceae ), and was from 1948 to 1975 editor of the Flora Neerlandica.
