Simon Niepmann

Simon Niepmann ( born August 2, 1985 in Lörrach ) is a German -Swiss rowers from Grenzach- Wyhlen on the Upper Rhine.

The son of a Swiss mother and a German has both nationalities. After Niepmann had participated in 1998 for the rowing club Grenzach at his first competition, he succeeded at first admission to the Baden-Württemberg selection of U16.

Later, he also joined the Seeclub Zurich and Basel Rowing Club, as the seat of the Swiss Rowing Federation in Sarnen, 120 kilometers away allowed him to retain his place of residence Grenzach, rather than for the closest, but more than 500 kilometers away, German Bundesleistungszentrum rowing in have to move to Dortmund.

Simon Niepmann began in 2007 at the University of Basel to study sports science and geography to become a teacher, but needed because of his athletic career five instead of three years for a bachelor's degree. In addition to his studies, he participated in several successful in U-23 World Cups before him and his teammates Mario Gyr, Lucas Tramèr and Simon Schürch succeeded to the semifinals without coxswain of the draw at the World Rowing Championships in 2011 in the lightweight four. His team reached the finals, although only sixth place, but could qualify through the semi-final obtained directly for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

In London, the team won on the day after the opening ceremony of the flow and thus qualified for the semifinals, where it was able to secure behind the United Kingdom a place in A-final on August 2. In the final race, the team finished fifth.

The World Rowing Championships 2013 in Chungju, South Korea, he won with Lucas Tramer the lightweight coxless pairs ahead of Italy and the United Kingdom.
